It also gives the option to run Windows 8 apps in a windows rather than in full-screen mode, and disable those hot-corners that trigger the charms bar and app switcher.Kannan Subbiahhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02737187722305953525noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8304271840601513869.post-10671860526821166072012-12-06T00:31:03.598-08:002012-12-06T00:31:03.598-08:00Windows 8 is different from Windows 7, which means...Windows 8 is different from Windows 7, which means learning new stuff including keyboard shortcuts that can save valuable time vs accomplishing the same thing using touchscreen commands.

Here are a dozen of the most useful ones:Kannan Subbiahhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02737187722305953525noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8304271840601513869.post-19060467239969026982012-12-05T18:34:39.414-08:002012-12-05T18:34:39.414-08:00I wanted to start windows 8 with the desktop as ag...I wanted to start windows 8 with the desktop as against the start screen and here is how I did it. Ja...This may be of interest to Windows 8 users ...

Jakob Nielsen, one of the world’s foremost web usability experts, slammed Windows 8 in a lengthy blog post. He calls out the OS for hiding features, reducing discoverability, low information density in “Modern” apps, overly active live tiles, and overall reduced power using a single-window interface.

KannanKannan Subbiahhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02737187722305953525noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8304271840601513869.post-41125151520918714472012-11-21T00:06:14.318-08:002012-11-21T00:06:14.318-08:00I could finally confirm that the crashes were due ...I could finally confirm that the crashes were due to some of the features of Kaspersky not being Windows 8 ready. I had to disable the mail and IM anti virus features and am not experiencing crashes afterwards. Kaspersky has also confirmed this and advised me for the soon to be released Windows 8 support.

Kannan.Kannan Subbiahhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02737187722305953525noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8304271840601513869.post-24588170408502850262012-11-08T06:31:27.337-08:002012-11-08T06:31:27.337-08:00Selva,

I suspect Kaspersky to be the reason as its virus definition files get corrupt every now and then and Kaspersky fails to have the protection enabled. On the usability front, much of the applications that I use are desktop applications and as such it is not much of a difference than the earlier OS, except the missing old style Start menu. But as I get used to the new Start screen, I started liking it.

Kannan.Kannan Subbiahhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02737187722305953525noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8304271840601513869.post-62885470211672737732012-11-08T03:26:44.878-08:002012-11-08T03:26:44.878-08:00Congrats Kannan for installing and experiencing Wi...Congrats Kannan for installing and experiencing Windows 8. It was all fine till yesterday. I have only been using the desktop browsers and I have tried using three different browsers, but the crash happened irrespective of the browser. Suspecting issues with Kaspersky Pure or some of the drivers. Will keep posting once I figure out the root cause.Kannan Subbiahhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02737187722305953525noreply@blogger.com
